In Ex-Boogeyman, Kristopher Triana delivers his customary orgy of violence, sardonic humor, and overall not-give-a-fuckery in full technicolor.
Jonathan Zain rose to cult status in the 80s as Nicky Hector, a disfigured slasher with a butcher knife — for 15 films. Years later, Zain scrapes by on the con circuit. His family life is in shambles, and he drinks heavily.
When a remake of the Lunatic franchise gets announced without his involvement, Zain’s hopes for a comeback die as horribly as any of his celluloid victims—along with Zain’s last few morsels of sanity. Dissociating into his on-screen alter-ego, Zain embarks on a blood-soaked campaign to re-create the Lunatic story the way it was meant to be told. (Brando eat your heart out).
I listened to the audiobook, narrated by a narrator who deserves a place in the canon of horror icons, Chuck Bruggee, and it’s an experience that adds an inimitable je ne sais quoi to Triana’s yarn.
Scribble this one on your lists, muchachos!
